The Wood County CASA/GAL Program is a department within the Wood County Juvenile Court. The program receives
funding from donations from both public and private sectors in Wood County,
VOCA and state grant funds and some financial support for administrative
expenses from the Wood County Juvenile Court and Wood County Commissioners.
Funding is also provided to the program by the non-profit Friends of Wood County CASA advisory board.
Mission Statement for CASA/GAL Program
The mission of the Wood County Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem Program is to recruit, train, guide, monitor and maintain qualified CASA/GAL volunteers (Court Appointed Special Advocates/Guardians ad Litem) who are appointed by the Wood County Juvenile Court Judge as Guardians ad Litem to advocate for the best interests of children who are before the court as a result of abuse, neglect and dependency as defined by state child welfare laws. CASA/GAL volunteers serve as an independent voice throughout the Juvenile Court proceedings until a safe and permanent home is found for each child.
CASA/GAL Program Goal
The immediate goal of the Wood County Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem (CASA/GAL) Program is to provide trained community volunteers to advocate for the "best interests" of children who come into the court system as a result of abuse, neglect or dependency, recognizing the diverse needs of the children served which includes diversity in race, ethnicity, economic, gender and geographic needs.
Our long term goal is to provide a CASA/GAL for each and every child who enters the court system as a result of abuse, neglect or dependency.
