Training

Training is essential to increase a CASA®/GAL's effectiveness in helping children. Being a CASA/GAL requires two levels of training: preservice and continued in-service.

Before you become a CASA/GAL, you must attend 40 hours of preservice training which is funded, coordinated and facilitated by the Wood County CASA/GAL Program. Preservice training sessions are held two times per year. You will have an opportunity to spend five hours observing in Court as part of the training.

After you become a CASA/GAL, your training continues. You are required to complete 12 hours of additional training each year. The CASA/GAL program provides monthly in-service training which will enable you to easily meet this criteria.

CASA/GAL Volunteers receive the support of Volunteer Mentors and CASA/GAL Program staff to assist in the tasks needed to advocate for children.
